Foster FAQ's-
How long does each foster stay in my home?
We have a minimum stay requirement of 2 weeks, but the board will determine if a special circumstance is needed. However, You may have a dog up to 2 months or longer if they need special meds, training, or socialization. Some of our dogs have had a rough life up until we’ve taken them in, and they may not know what it’s like to have a warm, soft spot to curl up at night and lay their heads. We prefer that each dog stay in his/her assigned foster home until he/she is adopted, as moving a dog too many times can be very stressful and set the dog back. However, we do understand that life happens and it may become necessary to discontinue fostering a dog. We just ask that you give us as much time as possible when needing to remove a dog from your home. If there is an emergency situation please contact your assigned UU Board Member.
What if I, our family, a friend, or another family member wants to adopt our foster?
Please ask them to visit our website to fill out the adoption application. We will process the application as we do for any other person and work with them directly on placing the dog in their home. Of course, you as the foster family will be involved in this process as you know the dog and the people interested.
Can I go on vacation while fostering?
Of course you can! If you are planning a vacation, please be sure to give us as much notice as possible. For some dog's frequent changes can be stressful on foster dogs are allowed to stay in a home that is not approved by our board members, so please don’t have a family or friend watch the dog at their house while you are gone unless previously approved.
